About the Artist
S.C. Mummert is a contemporary western artist best known for his romanticized vision of the American West. Mummert received formal training in Chicago beginning as a commercial artist (from the same Chicago studio that produced Howard Terpning) and later received one-on-one instruction from Tom Ryan & John Asaro. Regardless of the time period he’s portraying, adventure and optimism are recurrent themes found in his work. Like Rockwell and Sundblom before him, Mummert’s paintings regularly offer us a world filled with an infectious enthusiasm and confidence to overcome. He works exclusively in oils—with much of his work resembling a classic magazine cover. His smiling cowgirls could look right at home on a vintage newsstand.
