Cande Aguilar

About the Artist

Cande Aguilar was born in Brownsville, Texas. Aguilar began his career as a musician at the age of 10 playing cojunto music. He toured the United States, receiving numerous awards while being surrounded by the great cojunto musicians. Touring allowed Aguilar to grow and gain inspiration from the diverse cultures he experienced. In 1998 he produced his first oil painting, and has since accumulated an impressive body of work. Aguilar’s work is an example of the unique art form found in the Rio Grande Valley. He concurrently exhibited with two internationally recognized museums: the McNay and the Benito Cultural Heritage Museum.
