| Inspired with new approaches and techniques by the late Charles Sanderson of Wichita, Kansas, Toon began his life-long career as a watercolorist in 1969. Along with Sanderson’s work, Winslow Homer, Edward Hopper and Andrew Wyeth have influenced Toon’s works. Recently a plein air workshop by internationally known artist, Tony VanHasselt has given rise to a lighter, quick style Toon continues to explore. In 2004, Toon retired as Art Director at KTUL Television, the ABC affiliate in Tulsa. Spanning 35 years, his career with Channel 8 as a commercial artist/graphic designer started in 1973. Today, Toon continues to paint full-time in his studio at Lake Keystone west of Tulsa. Recently, Toon has conducted one and three-day watercolor workshops at the Rockport Center for the Arts, Rockport, Texas, and the Kemp Center for the Arts, in Wichita Falls, Texas. He is currently available for watercolor workshops and solo exhibits. In addition to painting, Toon continues his writing of fiction novels. |
