"My latest metal sculptures are works in steel with copper, stone and crystals. I am amazed at the strength of steel and the beauty of copper, at the way colors can be pulled out of metal with water, oxygen and heat. It’s as though nature is painting the work for me, and I am just nudging it in certain directions through the use of patinas. Over time, the patinas continue to slightly change and evolve, imbuing the work with the rustic beauty of antiquity. As to shapes, nature will always be my muse.

My fascination with underwater mythical creatures was expressed in my art and stories as a child, and as an adult, I've had some opportunity to explore the sea floor while snorkeling. I find the existence of actual sea creatures to be just as bizarre and out of this world as that of mermaids or anything else our imagination could conjure. Viewing ocean life up close, is truly like exploring another planet.

I believe that art is more important than ever at this time, even when the economy is poor, since art has the ability to inspire and uplift not only its creators, but its viewers, into a more aware and transcendent realm. I believe we need more than just food to survive; to thrive we also need a deeper sort of nourishment.  For me, that comes from the creative process.  Art allows us to feel emotions reminiscent of our childhood experiences; so my goal, through the process of both creating and viewing art, is to recapture that feeling of awe and wonder we all felt long ago."
